W17Reptilocracy 🦎🏛️ Charisma On, Empathy Off

Teaser

Power redesigns the role so care for the people who bear the cost looks like a bug. Once it is gone, emotional distance gets sold as toughness and maturity.

TLDR

On the table, they drain empathy out like excess fluid and tick the box for “success.” The checklist keeps charisma and party loyalty switched on, but turns off the part of us that hurts when others do.

Context

This scene shows how fear chains and incentive structures frame empathy as a liability in high-stakes roles: feeling too much for those who bear the cost can slow decisions, resist harsh policies, or trigger guilt. Over time, the culture teaches us to separate public warmth from private feeling, so charm and slogans stay while real concern is numbed.

Narrative control then recasts emotional distance as “toughness,” “objectivity,” or “putting the mission first,” making the extracted empathy look like professional maturity. “When hurting less matters more than harming less, the system anesthetizes itself.” Without psychological fitness filters for genuine empathy, courage to act on it, and resistance to status-driven numbness, organizations promote leaders who can smile convincingly while their decisions quietly grind other nervous systems down.

BUT WHY:

This is part of an experiment: we are keeping count of how many scenes it takes before we agree that leaders with real power should prove they are psychologically fit to hold it.

By turning our instincts and hive habits into animals, the project asks why we still let untested nervous systems run entire societies.

In a world where one unstable nervous system can scale to entire institutions, this project treats Reptilocracy as the cartoon diagnosis and points to one concrete step: the Change.org petition (Stronger Checks and Balances: Psychological Fitness for Australia’s Top Leaders).
