Private doubt rarely starts punishment. Groups punish a cheat only when the cheat becomes common knowledge: everyone knows, and everyone knows that everyone knows. Pyramids and thin sideways talk keep that from forming: each person can see the cheat and still stay quiet, because nobody has heard the others say it out loud.

People give the acceptable reason outward; that story is a deniability hood: a clean cover that keeps the public account clean. The real reason can sit in the dark, sometimes outside the person’s own awareness, sometimes as a way to avoid their own “self”.

When tools draft, sort, and summarize for you, they mostly eat the habit plane: inherited conclusions, reactive loops, cognition that runs like muscle memory. What stays yours is the metacognition plane: noticing which parts you outsourced, and learning to think ahead of your thoughts.

Touch and thought run on the same perceptual machinery, but you get two different felt assignments: the world on your hand, the operator in your head. You can’t even get close to thinking with an elbow. That asymmetry should unsettle you more than it does.

Colonial projects turned narcissism into a deliberate weapon. Self-regard, entitlement, and disregard for others justified taking and keeping power, and elevated people willing to conquer, dispossess, and destroy without remorse. Intelligence agencies later formalized the lever: heavy narcissistic traits make a person easy to steer as an asset, because hunger for approval and fear of shame hand someone else the dial.

Unexamined neutrality under pressure turns into drift, and drift makes you easy to steer. Without a clear internal compass, you risk being nudged into whatever roles the system rewards: a silent bystander, an eager recruit, or a compliant enforcer.

Your ego runs like a game engine your brain keeps active in the background. The pain feels real because it borrows the same circuits as physical injury, but the game itself is a simulation. If you want to evolve, recognize it is not real.
